Cardio Coach ™ Guided Workouts Volume 3
A review of Sean O'Malley's Cardio Coach guided workouts.
As a trainer I realize that cardio is a necessary part of any fitness program. But I just don't enjoy it! I admit. If I did not have to do cardio to stay lean I would not do it.
My thinking changed though after getting my hands on Cardio Coach™.
Cardio Coach are CDs or MP3 files that you listen to during your aerobic workout. Sean O'Malley guides you through an entire workout. The music is fantastic and Sean motivates and inspires you to reach your full potential. It's like he's right there on the next treadmill or bike encouraging you to "reach for it" as he says.
Cardio Coach has changed the way I do cardio for ever. Here's the lowdown on Volume 3. It's the one I have been using the most lately.
Volume 3, like the others, is a guided cardio workout that leads you through 4 levels of intensity. Level 1 is low intensity, Level 2 is medium, Level 3 is high and Level 4 is deadly. You set your incline and/or speed to match each level (using target heart rate or Perceived Exertion).
The workout begins with a 5 minute warm up. Sean is there right from the start to help you select the right intensity and give you an idea of what is to come. You then move into a 3 min Level 2 steady state. Sean's cues help you decide how hard to work. Next is your first challenge. 6 Level 3, 30 second sprints, followed by 30 seconds of rest. (If you were to stop right after these and jump to the final steady state and cool down you'd already have an awesome workout.) Following that you get one minute of rest and it's on to Challenge 2, two tough gradual hill climbs. Each of these hills are 3 minutes long. 1 minute to reach Level 3, maintain that for one minute and then use the last minute to get to Level 4. After this, you get another break at Level 2 and then it's your last challenge, 4 Level 4 sprints, each 10 seconds long with 30 seconds rest. These are killer. There's no daydreaming here. The workout ends with a Level 2 phase, a cooldown and a stretch.
The music is so motivating. It's easy to find a rhythm and pacing no matter what level you are working at.
I definitely find myself working harder than I would without Cardio Coach. Best of all, you're done before you know it. I always feel like I could take on anything life throws at me after I've done one of these workouts.
I highly recommend Cardio Coach. I actually now enjoy doing my cardio.
